What are some good medical thriller novels?

I'm looking for some good summer reads and wanted some suggestions. I'm specifically looking for great medical thriller(like Robin Cook) novels dealing with plague and pestilence, outbreaks, etc. I used to read Robin Cook but his last works have not been up there with his earlier works. Therefore, I'm searching for other authors that focus on the aforementioned genre. Also, I would love to find books with themes similar to the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Bascially, I'd like to find great, gory, captivating thrillers. Any suggestions? Thanks!
