Can you think of a Sherlock Holmes-esque continuation to this real mystery that happened to me at the library?

The librarian didn't ask for his name- he probably said he'd left his wallet. The guy who returned it to you had probably done the same thing only his wallet had been stolen and his friend outside merely retrieved the wrong wallet for him from the librarian, or some such thing. Interesting plots are extra.
